Why I can't edit the time on a photo
Time and location are locked at capture by design. Here's what you can still edit, plus how to fix a wrong timezone.
Timemark locks the timestamp and GPS location on every photo at the moment of capture. These fields can’t be changed afterward, by design.
Why time and location are locked
Section titled “Why time and location are locked”The timestamp and GPS coordinates are the core of Timemark’s photo verification. Locking them after capture keeps the Photo Code tied to the original capture record.
Editing the timestamp or location would invalidate the Photo Code and break verification in Verify Center.
What you can edit
Section titled “What you can edit”You can still change these after a photo is taken:
- Watermark fields: Notes, title, and other template fields, via Edit watermark.
- Logo: add, crop, or replace the logo on the watermark.
- Template layout: switch or adjust the template style.
If your time is wrong
Section titled “If your time is wrong”The timestamp comes straight from your phone’s clock and timezone at the moment of capture. Timemark has no separate time setting, so a wrong time means the phone was wrong when you shot. The common cases:
The time is off by exactly one hour This is almost always a daylight saving time (DST) mismatch. The phone is using standard time when it should be on summer time, or the reverse.
- Turn on Set Automatically for date and time in your phone settings so DST adjusts on its own.
The time is off by several hours, or stuck on the wrong zone (e.g. GMT+8) The phone’s timezone doesn’t match where you actually are, often after travel or with timezone set to manual.
- Turn on Set time zone automatically in your phone settings, or set the correct zone manually for your location.
The date is wrong The phone clock itself is set to the wrong day.
- Set the phone’s date and time to automatic, then retake the photo.
Because the timestamp is locked at capture, fixing the phone clock only corrects future photos. Photos already taken with the wrong time can’t be changed.
To avoid it: set your phone’s time and timezone to automatic, and double-check the zone before starting work at a new location.
