Location or address is wrong or missing

Why GPS or the address can be off, blank, or not shown on the watermark, and how to fix it.

If the location or address on your photo looks wrong, is blank, or doesn’t appear at all, it’s usually one of the cases below.

Location permission is off With no location permission, Timemark records no GPS, so the address and map are blank or show a default value.

  • Turn on location for Timemark: Settings → Apps → Timemark → Permissions → Location (Android) or Settings → Timemark → Location (iOS), set to Always or While Using.
  • On iOS, also turn on Precise Location, or only an approximate area is recorded.

The Map or Address field is turned off in the watermark If the template has the Map or Address field switched off, the GPS is still captured but not drawn on the photo.

  • Tap the edit icon on the watermark and toggle Map and Address back on.

GPS hadn’t locked yet, or you’re indoors Indoors or right after opening the App, the phone may not have a fix yet, leaving the address empty.

  • Go outdoors or near a window, wait a few seconds for GPS to lock, then capture.

GPS signal was weak at capture time Timemark records the GPS coordinates at the moment you tap the shutter. If your phone hadn’t locked onto a strong GPS signal yet, the coordinates may be inaccurate.

  • Wait a few seconds after opening the app before capturing, to let GPS lock.
  • Move outdoors or away from tall buildings for a stronger signal.
  • Check that Location Services is set to Always or While Using for Timemark in your phone settings.

Address was geocoded incorrectly Timemark converts GPS coordinates into a readable address using reverse geocoding. In remote areas or places with incomplete map data, the address shown may not match the actual location.

  • The GPS coordinates themselves may still be accurate even if the address text looks wrong.
  • You can verify the coordinates by checking the photo in Verify Center.

Location Services was off If Location Services was disabled when the photo was taken, no GPS data was recorded and the location field will be empty or show a default value.

  • Enable Location Services for Timemark in your phone settings and retake the photo.

Wrong timezone or region setting If your phone’s region is set incorrectly, the address format may display unexpectedly.

  • Check your phone’s language and region settings.

GPS coordinates and location data are locked after capture and can’t be edited. This is by design. Editing location would invalidate the photo’s verification. See Why I can’t edit the time on a photo.
